August 2016 Camp History: Alexander Hamilton's World

"I wish I didn’t have to leave!" –  camper
"It was, by far, the best experience he had all summer." – parent

At Camp History, middle schoolers dive into past and enjoy behind-the-scenes access to the New-York Historical Society to become junior historians, conservators, and curators! In week-long camps during school breaks in February, March, and August, campers immerse themselves in a historical era by exploring related N-YHS collections, meeting with Museum staff; and creating incredible projects to showcase their new-found expertise.

Camp History programs give middle school students the opportunity to perform primary historical research and expose them to a wide variety of museum careers, while having a lot of fun along the way.

This summer, we are going Hamilton-crazy! In each Camp History session, a small group of campers will learn about Hamilton’s world in the mornings and write about it in the afternoons, all building to a special performance. Campers will immerse themselves in Hamilton’s world with tours of the Museum galleries, exploration of rare documents and images in our library, meetings with Hamilton experts, and 18th and early 19th century crafts and activities. Campers will also work on creative writing pieces―poems, songs, stories, or skits―about Hamilton’s life and adventures. On the Friday of each session, campers will share their writing at our family party!

To register your child,  email camphistory@nyhistory.org or call 646-293-9922 or 646-293-9980.

Early Bird Special! Sign your camper up by May 15 and get $50 off! Applies to members and non-members.

Cancellation policy: Full refunds minus a $50 processing fee will be granted to registrants who cancel by July 1, 2016. No full or partial refunds will be granted after that date.
