Bronze struck medal with obverse showing draped female figure, at right, crowning nude male figure, at left, with laurel wreath; exposition grounds dominated by the Eiffel Tower beneath; legend: "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE"; date below at center: "1889." Reverse depicts winged allegorical female figure of France blowing trumpet with star above and bust in Phrygian cap and laurel wreath emerging from tree at right; ornate tablet beneath with inscription: "MUSEE AMERICAIN D'HISTOIRE/NATURELLE DE NEW YORK"; inscription at left of image: "REPUBLIQUE/FRANCAISE."
