Gold struck plaquette with obverse showing Aero Club of America logo flanked by two female figures; reverse bears inscription within circular reserve with fugure of Mercury at right and aeroplane, hot air balloon and dirigible at left; inscription: "ALAN K. HAWLEY/WINNER/FIFTH INTERNATIONAL/BALLOON RACE/FROM ST. LOUIS, MO. TO/LAKE TSITOGAMA/PROVINCE OF QUEBEC/OCTOBER 17th to 19th 1910/1172.9 MILES. 1887.6 KILOMETERS/AMERICAN DISTANCE RECORD/WORLD'S RECORD IN BALLOON/COMPETITION." Rectangular brown leather fitted case with green silk velvet and silk satin lining.
