Known as the President's Medal, this medal was presented by the National Academy of Design to Elihu Root on November 26, 1929. Elihu Root (1845-1937) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912. He served as Secretary of War under McKinley and Roosevelt (1899-1903) and as Secretary of State under Roosevelt (1905-1909). From 1909 to 1915 he was a Republican Senator from New York.
