Bronze badge worn by a member of the general committee of the George Washington inauguration centennial; badge suspended from two bars linked by chains; top bar "NEW YORK 1789-1889 GW"; lower bar engraved "GENERAL COMMITTEE"; obverse of badge with profile bust of George Washington facing left with tied fasces to right, with "PATER PATRIA / MDCC LXXXIX" and "GEORGE WASHINGTON"; reverse has eagle with shield and motto, and "TO COMMEMORATE THE INAUGURATION OF GEORGE WASHINGTON AS FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AT NEW YORK APRIL XXXTH MDCLXXXIX - BY AUTHORITY OF THE COMMITTEE ON CELEBRATION NEW-YORK APRIL XXXTH MCDDDLXXXIX"; taupe colored silk ribbon; original cardboard box printed: "GEORGE WASHINGTON / INAUGURATION / CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION / 1889" and "TIFFANY & CO."
