Description 
Ovoid wooden bandbox and lid, with cardboard lap joints (edge of lid) stitched to wooden surface; bandbox covered with blue paper printed with repeated scenes of Castle Garden in front of harbor, with American flag flying in background, with people strolling among strips of lawn and flowers, with several tall trees, in foreground in brown, green, yellow, and white; lid printed with scene of stone house and church surrounded by wreath of daisy-like flowers, in brown, green, and white on blue ground; edge of lid printed with geometric sawtooth pattern in pink, white, and green; parts of box and lid reinforced with pieces of wood and cardboard.

Gallery Label 
This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.
