African-American Masters: Highlights from the Smithsonian American Art Museum

April 01, 2003 - June 01, 2003

In collaboration with the Smithsonian American Art Museum, African-American Masters is one of five exhibitions featuring the museum's collections that are touring the nation through 2005. Sixty-one works by artists such as Richmond Barthé, Romare Bearden, William H. Johnson and Gordon Parks reveal a special awareness of "being Black," and the inspiration provided by historical events, political issues, spirituality, music and folklore.
