The Four Seasons Restaurant Documentary

Generations of business leaders, dignitaries, celebrities, artists, well-established New York families, politicians, lauded chefs and long-time employees, together with formidable hosts and owners ensured The Four Seasons Restaurant existed as an idea bigger than the sum of its parts. This documentary will be a record of history and the story of this idea.

Dear friends of the Four Seasons:

For 57 years, the Four Seasons has been an international legend, an only-in-Manhattan oasis, and a magical, serendipitous discovery for anyone who has ever walked in unaware of what an architectural and culinary gem it is.

The documentary of our restaurant is very special to us, depicting the last few months at 52nd Street, and delving into our colorful 57 year history. We are thrilled that all of these cornerstone moments of the Four Seasons were, and continue to be captured on video to be shared with all of our wonderful patrons and friends.   We are very honored to be a part of our magnificent city.

We are so happy that the New-York Historical Society sees this as an opportunity to tell an important story of New York’s history and decided to become the Fiscal Sponsor of the documentary.

The Four Seasons has meant so much, to so many, for so long. We look forward to sharing this exciting glimpse into our history with you.

Sincerely,

Julian Niccolini & Alex von Bidder

SYNOPSIS

The Four Seasons Restaurant Documentary is the story of outstanding people that traces a luminous 57-year period in the life of a world-class restaurant that opened in a one-of-a-kind architectural space at the heart of midtown Manhattan in 1959 and forever changed America’s cuisine and dining experience.

On Saturday, July 16th 2016, the last meal was served in the iconic Seagram Building; 10 days later the contents from ash-trays ($12,500) to bronze plaques ($96,000) disappeared during an astounding, nostalgia fueled, $4.1 million auction. On July 31st 2016, Julian Niccolini and Alex von Bidder locked the doors for the last time at 99 E. 52nd Street, setting their sights on 280 Park Avenue and the next exciting chapter of The Four Seasons.

For some, this documentary will be a walk down memory lane; for many others, it will be an introduction to a venerable New York institution.
