According to the accession records, this chair belonged to the donor's mother's family, the Bassetts of New Haven, CT. The chair and it's mate were probably purchased by Miss Morgan's grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Bassett.
The quality of the carving of 1946.305b is slightly different from that of (a). This may indicate that it was made at a later date to complete a set. Side chair (b) also shows less ware.
