Gift of the Half Moon Committee of the Hudson-Fulton Exhibition, 1909
This brass astrolabe was among the objects on the 1909 replica of Henry Hudson's ship, "Half Moon." The English explorer set sail from Amsterdam in 1609 with backing from the Dutch East India Company, dropped anchor in the lower bay of what is now New York harbor, and then sailed up what was later named the Hudson River.
