Description
Summer dress helmet made of white wool felt over cork; peaks in front and back, both angled downward; gilded metal insignia of the 7th Regiment, N.G.S.N.Y., attached in front; brass spike attached to top; greenish yellow leather sweatband and light brown cotton twill lining; narrow light brown leather chin strap.

Gallery Label
This helmet was worn by the donor, Samuel V. Hoffman (1866-1942), as a member of Co. K, 7th Regiment, National Guard New York. Hoffman enlisted in 1888 and served, on active and inactive duty, until his death in 1942. This type of helmet was part of the regulation summer uniform of the 7th Regiment from 1885 to 1900.
