Athletic gold medal with circular medal suspended from red, white and blue striped ribbon with pin back; image of a woman with a flowing tunic laurels in both hands, above a wheel, on obverse, ring of garland and sports equipment on reverse; inscribed "CHAMPIONSHIP" on pin; engraved "AMATEUR ATHLETIC UNION OF THE UNITED STATES MDCCLXXXVIII" on obverse; engraved "50 MTR. RUN '48 4 TH" on reverse
