Polished stainless steel ashtray in two pieces; circular bowl on flattened tripod base; lid with circular opening for ashes; cigarette rest attached to lid, overhanging opening and side of bowl.

Gallery Label
This ashtray, designed by Bauhaus metal designer Marianne Brandt in 1924 and reproduced by the Italian firm Alessi, was purchased by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter for his office. In 2003, Carter received a summons under the city's new antismoking regulations for having this unused ashtray visible in his Times Square Office.
