Description
Bronze badge worn by a member of the George Washington inauguration centennial committee; badge suspended from two bars linked by chains; top bar "NEW YORK 1789-1889 GW"; lower bar engraved "GENERAL COMMITTEE."; obverse of badge with profile bust of George Washington facing left with tied fasces to right, with "PATER PATRIA / MDCC LXXXIX" and "GEORGE WASHINGTON"; reverse has eagle with shield and motto, and "TO COMMEMORATE THE INAUGURATION OF GEORGE WASHINGTON AS FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AT NEW YORK APRIL XXXTH MDCLXXXIX - BY AUTHORITY OF THE COMMITTEE ON CELEBRATION NEW-YORK APRIL XXXTH MCDDDLXXXIX"; ivory silk ribbon.
