He left almost all the many boards he served on, including the New York Public Library and the New York Philharmonic. The only thing he stuck with was the New-York Historical Society, in part because he is chairman of that board but also because he remains personally invested in the society’s mission: to relate the history of the country — through the prism of New York — from its founding through the present.
