EVENT DETAILS

Debuting in 1985, Larry Kramer’s award-winning play The Normal Heart encapsulated the fear, confusion, and outrage of the early years of the HIV/ AIDS crisis in New York City. In conjunction with the exhibition AIDS in New York: The First Five Years, this special program reflects on this critical period and the play’s lasting significance.

SPEAKER BIOS

Larry Kramer, a public health advocate and the cofounder of Gay Men’s Health Crisis, is the playwright of The Normal Heart.  Tony Kushner (moderator) is the screenwriter of Lincoln and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play Angels in America.

To purchase tickets to public programs by phone, please call the New-York Historical Society’s in-house call center at (212) 485-9268. Call center is open 9 am–5 pm daily. Advance tickets may also be purchased on site at the New-York Historical Society admissions desk. Advance purchase is required to guarantee seating. All sales are final and payments cannot be refunded. Programs and dates may be subject to change. Management reserves the right to refuse admission to latecomers.
