The Works: Salon Style at the New-York Historical Society (June 20, 2014 – February 8, 2015)

This installation displays numerous gems from the New-York Historical Society's permanent collection in nineteenth-century Salon Style, showcasing the depth and range of our holdings. Everything from self-portraits of Asher Durand to Hudson River School landscapes to religious and history paintings will be on view, in close proximity that unites these typically separate styles.

Chinese American: Exclusion/Inclusion (September 26, 2014 – April 19, 2015)

A selected look at the long, complex, often troubled, but also mutually sought-after relations between China, the U.S., and the people of both nations from the 1770s through the present day. The exhibition includes a particular focus on American policies toward immigration from China and the struggle over the Chinese Exclusion Act—the 1882 law that severely restricted immigration from China and prevented all naturalization of Chinese immigrants, as well as initiating an era of increasingly draconian anti-immigrant laws for the Chinese and others.

Annie Leibovitz: Pilgrimage (November 21, 2014 - February 22, 2015)

Annie Leibovitz: Pilgrimage charts a new direction for one of America’s best-known living photographers. Unlike her staged and carefully lit portraits made on assignment for magazines and advertising clients, the photographs in this exhibition were taken simply because Leibovitz was moved by the subject. The images speak in a commonplace language to the photographer’s curiosity about the world she inherited, spanning landscapes both dramatic and quiet, interiors of living rooms and bedrooms, and objects that are talismans of past lives.Annie Leibovitz, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, 2009, © Annie Leibovitz.
